hi everyone my name is Greg from Boston MA and new to this forum. however i am not a newbie when it comes to reptiles. short version i have owned and cared for a 5ft ball python for 10 years and two read ear slider turtles for 5. all three are in good health. like most people on the forum, i have always wanted a tortoise. after months of research and preparation i finally got one. long story short hes in a 55 gallon now the wife is pregnant and wants no part in me building a better enclosure for him rite now haha i usually keep the humidity at 50% and the basking as high as i can get it which is a little under 90. he always burrows under his hide and doesnt come out at all. only time he eats is if i move him out of his burrow. whats the deal?

Hello and Welcome:). Other then the basking temp, what is the temp,of the rest of the enclosure? It most likely may be too hot or too cold. What kind of substrate are you using also?

Hi Greg, and welcome to the Forum!!

You might try covering the tank to keep the heat in. I agree with everyone else that the tortoise isn't warm enough. From keeping your snake, you are aware that a cold blooded animal won't eat if he can't get his inner core up above 80F degrees.

Hello Greg: Welcome. Looks like all hands on deck for you now. Is this is a great place or what? Good to have you here.

No normal glass blocks the UVB rays.
