How do you add calcium and vitamines. Mine won't eat if sprinkled with powder.
Then you're us too much. All you need is a very tiny 'pinch' between your thumb and index finger. How do you add calcium and vitamines. Mine won't eat if sprinkled with powder.
Let's see what @Tom thinksI don't think this one is doing great. Why is it white betweene scutes? But only bottom. On top no growth at all. One month since I got him it is the same weight and size.
So the sick hatchling was longer with the breeder? Have you been to the vets? I will tag @Tom here for his thoughts. As it turned out, this baby has mbd. And it has gotten so far that I have to tube feed her.
Breeder has started this one wrong. As soon as she sucked yolk sack hatchlings were outside. The other one I got as soon as she was without yolk and is doing great. Same enviroment same UVB, same temps,.....
Yes the sick one is about 14 days older. So the sick hatchling was longer with the breeder? Have you been to the vets? I will tag @Tom here for his thoughts.
Maybe @zovick can weigh in here.Yes the sick one is about 14 days older.
In my country there is no exotic animals vet, only for cats, dogs, cows....
I think this one will not make it. She started to lose weight. Only this week she lost 3 grams, from 25 grams to 22grams.
Curious, would you get a new tortoise from the same breeder?@Gregor
The tortoise looks quite unhealthy. Probably "failure to thrive" syndrome due to breeder's treatment after hatching. Perhaps when it dies (as it appears will happen), you can get the breeder to replace it with another just-hatched baby.
Normally, not, but both the ones he has are from the same breeder. Also please note that I said "just-hatched", plus if that breeder would replace the dying one with a newborn, the OP won't have to pay for it as he would if going to a different breeder.Curious, would you get a new tortoise from the same breeder?
Breeder is from Austria who keeps Sulcatas just for hobby. He had a clutch and I bought one from him, and the other was a gift from him to my daughter.@Gregor do you know if your tortoise was hatched in Slovenia or is the vendor claiming to be the breeder importing them? I would not get another tortoise from the same vendor.
I’m so sorry for your loss! I wasn’t replying to this thread cause it was beyond my skill level, but to me this looked like hatchling failure. You did everything you could! You’re in my thoughtsView attachment 395843Sadly, she past away
I hope the other one will be ok.I am so sorry for your loss and wish you the best of luck with the remaining tortoise.
Try raising the temperature so it is at 32C (90F) or a bit higher all the time. Also soak the tortoise daily for 20-30 minutes, then place it in front of a pile of food. Hopefully you will be able to turn this one around and save it.A small update on other Sulcata that I got from same breeder. She is doing fine, growing fast.
But I guess here where I live breeders have no clue how to raise hatchlings.
A month ago I got myself a 14 day old Leopard hatchling, who was started somewhat correct in a humid inviroment has now started to show the same simptoms as poor Sulcata that died.
Setup is the same as for a thriving Sulcata that I have, same temps, same UVB, same food, same soaking regime....
But past week she started to sleep alot, yawning alot, and only eats when I put her next to food. Also I notice that she rubs her eyes alot. And in this month since I got her she has not grown. No new growth lines.
But last monday I was surprised that she ate so much food. I mean alot. But since then not much.
