I try not to handle my specimens in the collection too often. But I was soaking the biggens and sifting through ones I was going to thin out for last weekends show. Well upon scrubbing mud hole debris off and shining them up. I decided to keep this one. Shes very very different than other Guyana specimens in my collection. When she is scrubbed with water her tone turns brownish transparent. She has a lot of radiating pattern to her too. As well she has a split scute, but super smooth growth has kinda mended it. Anyways shes staying with the group. produces nice offspring too.

The largest baby is not hers. The three smallest ones are though.

Thanks. Nature at its finest I suppose its not really odd like I tiled it. Many come in looking like her. But I think she is a good looking animal indeed. I will sprites her with water and snap a photo. Hard to capture all her weird markings with a camera. But for sure a looker for a Northern.

Kelly,,, beautiful gal .. no doubt. Big Ol WC female! She does have a unique coloring to her ,,although as we talked .. Not an old hypo. Even with the darkest and very mature Hypo’s I have .. They tend to be more “ caramel color .. with 0% black …..nonetheless a very nice specimen. I use to have a odd color adult female RF that kicked out very very light babies .. And you would almost swear they were hypos .. But as they matured , they darkened up ….just like all the rest. There are other signs to look for ….too
Here are examples of those light colored ones I was producing back in 2008....BUT THEY ARE NOT HYPOS!

Wow those do look hypo. Its very hard to describe and show in a photo. When she's all scrubbed and has water on her shell under the sun she looks like a dark hypo kinda with black hue. She's awesome none the less.

Those light color animals pop up in both Cherryheads and Northerns. I usually get a few every year.

I love split scutes but I rarely get to see pictures of split adults on here. Thanks for sharing Kelly, very awesome looking female.

Eric when and if you do get light colored specimens let me know. I'd love a similar looking male to match up with her.

Yeah she is bowling ball smooth. I have a couple females that came in with her that have obvious growth rings. Smooth but signs of new rings. Supposedly WC are "farm raised" which usually they are still wild collected, but some are farm raised or just kept their for a span of time before they get shipped out. Without looking really close to her, its hard noticing the split scute. Like if your standing looking at her in the enclosure its not noticeable at all.

The male Guyana that is paired with her now is really smooth too.

T-Bone is his handle

And nope he is not breeding. He is snoozing away. LOL

Thanks, I figured as much. I've seen some light shelled Brazilians, but not like those in your pics above. Looking forward to seeing your Brazilian hypo hatchlings down the road.
