Lots of people in the frozen North buy babies or small ones and then end up giving them away or donating them to rescues when they get too big and the people finally realize that it is just not practical to keep giant tropical tortoises in the frozen north.

It can be done, but it is not cheap, easy, or practical. Problems must be solved and compromises made in any climate, but heating large spaces round the clock with snow on the ground outside is just not an easy task any way you look at it. Personally, I would not keep this species if I lived in a place like that, but I have nothing against people who do, as long as they do it right.

Yes, there certainly are sulcata keepers in Ohio. If you type in Ohio where is says search... at the top right of the page, you can read about some of them.
