For whatever reason, this tortoise has not been able to open its left eye since hatching out a few weeks ago. We intend to hold back a couple hatchlings a year for future breeding programs, and it looks like One Eyed Willy will be staying with us. I haven't figured out if he is actually blind in that eye, but it sure doesn't slow him down at all.

Here is his right eye which is normal.

Bet you can't guess what my favorite movie is?

GOONIES! ;)

He is really cute. Have you tried any terramycin in the eye, just for the hell of it?

Nah, don't really have any lying around. Might be worth a shot though.

It's sad when things like that happen to our torts but those are usually the ones we end up growing the most attached too! PS I love the Goonies!

His eye is still the same. I tried some eye ointment and very lightly tried to open the eye with a Q-tip, but it's not like his eye lid is stuck or anything, the eyelid just never detached during development. When he is a bit bigger I will take him to the vet to see if anything can be done, but at this point it certainly hasn't affected him at all...he's been keeping up with his other clutch mates really well.
