would a large like say 50gal storage tote work as a temporary outdoor habitat? if it was kept out of direct sun and only supervised i mean, our landlord has been redoing the yard it was only suppose to last 1 month but it's been way longer, I've been able to get him out a couple times at my parents house but its more of a pain, i've been told i could use something but nothing to big my tort is still fairly small almost 4 inches but not quite .

Also kiddie pool has been ruled out due to once all the dirt is in it it would be harder to move out of the way then a tote or so, this only has to last a little bit when the yard is done i can do whatever i want i was told

If it's temporary and he's going to be supervised I don't see a problem. Just make sure there is some shade to not overheat.

I would try to get one with low sides. The higher sides may make it heat up too much as there wouldn't be as much air flow. Other then that, yes, a tote could be used

As long as you will keep an eye on him at all times, otherwise, get the higher sided ones and trim them down for more air movement, but not so low he could get out.
