Outside Enclosure

Hello,
I live in central Texas and was wanting a German tortoise; however, I have some concerns. We have hot summer sand mild winters but it does get below 40. How cold can it get for a Herman tortoise? Is there some secrets to help them survive through winter outdoors?

Hermann's tortoises will brumate or hibernate in the winter and will usually be fine as long as they are kept dry.
