The Rose of Sharon can be brought inside but needs to be near a window that gets a lot of light. I put one in front of the sliding glass doors and it works out well. They grow up through the pavers here as the seeds fall all over the place. Mostly we consider them pretty weeds. They grow very fast too. I also have the hardy red one too. It comes up each year but doesn't turn into a tree like the Rose of Sharon.
I'll try to get a photo up of the different Hibiscus flowers. The ones that always get eaten are the ones with fewer petals. The prettier hybrid varieties aren't as well received.
The red one on the right is the hybrid and these red ones still get eaten over the orange colored ones from the same bush.
The pink/red one on the left, they will come running for.
I keep my hibiscus outside all year . Just cover them on cold nights . Uncover in the morning as long as no freeze is in the forecast . My red foots do the trimming for me . They eat flowers that fall off .
