What a lot of places sell as pet grass is wheat grass seed. It is edible if grown organically. I usually drop the seeds in water for a couple of days to sprout and then take the seedlings and spread them under the substrate, in a couple of days you have grass, then the tortoises get them and you start all over. You can grow them in a tub and use the clippings as food, but it seems to have a short life. I can't keep it alive for very long that way.
I seen one at Milaeger's saying "grown locally"..not sure if it means organic. It's also kept in a little fridge type storage there. I'm not sure if my Russian will eat it. What species do you have?
Thank you! I think I'll just buy one from the store, there's one in the organic section at Pick N Save, just to see if he likes it. Then I'll try growing them if he does. Where do you get seeds?
I have an indoor greenhouse where I plant his food, if he likes it I can grow some in there a long with his other foods.
