Plastic Tubs, Toxic Gases?

Hi all,
I bought a large black plastic tub for my one-year-old sulcata and built a top for it to create a closed chamber. I let the tub heat up without substrate or tortoise in it (checking the thermostat). When I opened the lid, a really strong plastic smell hit me in the face. I'm nervous about exposing my tort to nasty gases.

Any ideas on tubs and possible toxins they might release?

(I left the tub outside for a month and yet it still stinks.)

Depends on what it is made of. I don't know how regulated those types of things are in your country.

I would use something else.

If it's taking that long to off gas...maybe get something different.

I don't handle the off gases well myself (a recent new sofa is a good example). I had headaches after sitting on it for more than 10-20 minutes. It took a good 6 weeks or so before I couldn't smell it anymore.

I 'd hate to be little and have to live in a tub that was off gasing..especially closed up with low airflow.

I agree with you both. I went out today and found a higher quality tub, and the cc turned out (and smells) great. I think the original tub came from China and there's not a whole lot of regulation going on there.

Thanks for the input.
