I'm so sorry. So heartbreaking. It sounds like you did your best to save her. Very sorry for your loss.

Does anyone know what would cause a tortoises bowels to rot? Perhaps there is something to learn here. Was she trying to hibernate and stopped digesting food? Just to cold to digest?

When a tortoise should or wants to hibernate the owner has to soak the tortoise for a week every day that the guts are empty ( without food ).
The tortoise is not allowed to eat again before hibernation when the soaks are started.
When the guts are not empty the food starts to rot and the tortoise will die.
