I know this is seeming like a joke, but I bought this at a tag sale and although the woman was trying to sell this, she was totally convinced there was a tortoise that looked like this. I couldn't be sold on that but I did by it. (1 dollar!!) Does anyone think this had some special meaning? I mean maybe if a peacock and a tort mated?? But other than that?? Very very well crafted. Maybe it's the tort god!!
Thanks

Also does anyone use picasa photo and can get the photo directly in the pic?

I'm sure you're correct. Its deff. a Tortpea. But I can't tell from the picture whether its a **** or a hen. For a dollar, I would'a bought it too. Nice addition to any collection.

Cool...bought a very similar sculture/carving in the Phillipines, back in '80. No idea if it was of Phillipino folklore or merely a copy of a Chinese carving, though (some say the one, some say the other).

Always wondered why it had no head, or if the "neck" was really a stylized elephant trunk...

Probably have it in a box, out in the barn...will look for it tomorrow.

Very nice!
There's an ancient Indian story about a tortoise and a peacock who were friends...maybe it has something to do with that (?)
