Pond pumps

We recently are keeping water turtles in our outdoor pond. Are there any potential issues I need to be aware of with our pump? Thanks.

Well, for starters, what type pump are you talking about?

In my pond, I have a submersible sump pump. I has the capability of sucking up all kinds of debris from the bottom, including fish.

You want to be sure it has some sort of screen or wire around the intake so that it doesn't damage your turtles.

My husband says it is a regular submersible pump. He says he built a filter so it wouldn't suck up fish. He says it does have something around the intake. Just wondered if there was anything we might not be aware of. Thanks.
