I bought my spineless prickly pear pads off ebay. They haven't grown new pads yet since I have just put them in soil a week or less ago.

Note: Although it is called spineless, it still has small spines on them so caution is still needed when handling. They feel like a splinter when they get in your skin.. but at least they are tiny.

Lots of places sell them online, but they are expensive.
Most local mexican market or store they usually sell spineless optunia 3 pounds for a buck.
Most stater bros have it as well.

I do not know about California, but around central Texas, Walmart and most grocery stores have pads. Here on the forum, Coastal sells them as well. Great service.

Sometimes you can find them in the produce section of the grocery store. Look for "Nopales" or when they cut it up they call it "Nopalitos." My store isn't a Mexican store, but they carry it when in season.

I would suggest to go to grocery stores located near (or within) a community with a heavier density of Mexican nationality folks. I know in my area, even within a chain grocery store, they gear their produce section to fit with what the local nationalities are, so each store is a bit different in what they stock.

I carry it as well. It's naturally grown here in AZ. I even cut off the spines which is most of the work. Only problem is you'll have to pay shipping. I ship via the priority mail flat rate boxes to give you an idea of shipping costs. If you can find it cheap locally though then more power to you.

You can feed it to them as much as you'd like so long as you're feeding them other things as well. My torts love it so I give it to them as a treat twice a week because its a pain for me to cut that many spines off especially when I'm doing that for my customers as well! Haha otherwise it'd probably be an everyday thing.

It's all personal preference, it won't hurt them either way.
