What is your precentage of project animals (breeding), pet animals, or rescues?

Currently I have one pet that I hope becomes a project animal.

Mine are all projects and all pets. I have no such distinction. I do this because I love it and enjoy it. Raising hatchlings and breeding is just part of the fun for me. I have goals in mind for all of my tortoises too, so while I enjoy them all as pets daily, they are all still part of ongoing breeding projects.

Since I have a group of desert tortoises and it's illegal to allow them to breed, I would have to say they are pets. Then there's Dudley, a lone 110lb sulcata, also a pet. There are the two male Aldabrans - pets. So it looks like 8% of my tortoises are pets. I didn't include the box turtles in the figure because I don't know how many I have.

I have 1 tortoise, and because of that he is 100% pet. To me he'll always be a pet even if I make a huge enclosure and add females to breed.

I love Max, he's a great little guy, but raising a tortoise is more project if you ask me. It's a full time hobby!!! I never imagined getting a little tortoise could bring together a love of animals, gardening, construction and design all in one shelled package!

mine will be a pet, but also a project. I homeschool and anything that brings education to the house is a plus to me. I also have 4 furry rescues. 3 cats and a dog. but they are my pets.

This says it all.....It is a full time hobby. I can't believe all my free time is spent on gardening for Turbo, construction for turbo and shopping for turbo. I think I am obsessed with the whole tortoise thing!!

You are absolutely right Donna. Mine are all pets and have names and different personalities. I love them all as pets. But....I spend the whole Summer replanting, pulling out different plants, raking up muck, cleaning out the pond, etc. The gardening part is a never ending "project", but it is something I enjoy doing for my "pets".
