Good morning,
Pumpkin is a 4 year old Brazilian Cherry Head. noticed yesterday after a soak on the demise of Pumpkins shell is an indented area.
I do see on some refits when they get older have an indentation on both sides of their shells in the middle similar to the shape of an 8
Hers is on her left side only further back towards her tail not in the middle of the shell. Two scutes are smaller than the rest where the indentation is. Other than that her weight and appetite are perfect. Acting normally clear eyed no respiratory anything. She spends almost all of her time in her hide only comes out to drink and eat but that is normal for her.
I would appreciate input. Is this something to be concerned about? I’m thinking maybe just the way she’s wired.
I feed Mazuri soaked, baby spring lettuce, cantaloupe, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumber, banana etc.
She has a cuttlebone 24/7 never touched it. I dust her soaked Mazuri with calcium powder. I have reptivite which she won’t eat anything I put it on.
I included photos. Hopefully ou can see it

Sometimes the area between the scutes doesn't grow properly and the scutes look as though they are stuck together just as in your tortoise. There is nothing which can be done about that area.

I have had tortoises which had the same thing happen and have tried numerous things to get the areas to start growing again, but none of them worked.

In some rare cases, the areas suddenly started growing again years later, but that is not the norm.
