I just got Secretariat about 3 months ago and she came with some moderate pyramiding. Since then I have improved her diet (t the previous owners gave her way to many calcium supplements), upgraded her enclosure, and have been keeping the humidity leeks appropriate for her. My question is, hire long should out take to see significant improvement?
She is just over a year old and is primarily indoors (we live in an apartment). She doeshave a uvb light, heater and I take her outside to play in the grass a couple of times a week.

Hi J.A.G.:

Welcome to the Tortoise Forum!

Of course the correct diet and supplements is a must for a healthy tortoise, however, your pyramiding was caused because the tortoise was kept too dry during its first year of life. Redfooted tortoises require a more humid environment.

May we know your name and appx. where in the world you are?

I'm Jay and I'm in Austin. Thanks, I'm starting to see some improvement, but I guess I'm just impatient....

well if its only a year old, then it should grow more smooth as the shell grows with the right diet and humidity

remember- the old pyramids will not really go away, but new growth should look more normal- and in any case, this is a S L O W growing animal, so give it some time.
