Someone told me my tort Bert has the start of pyramiding, I have only just found out what it is as I haven't had Bert very long. Can someone with experience tell me if my tort has pyramiding or not ?

In one of the pics Bert looks dry because that's when I first got him and I feel he wasn't treated right. The owner would leave his heat lamp on 24/7 not handle him and feed him cheap super market lettuce.

I fear he wasn't getting his baths or any moisture and has pyramiding, thanks to anyone that can help :) ImageUploadedByTortForum1383432116.622737.jpg

Sorry, but that is not the start of pyramiding. He has it really good. However, raise, feed, hydrate him correctly and it will just be cosmetic. My leopard is pyramided too. I unfortunately found this forum too late. Started doing things the right way according to the great info and members here and well, he is still pyramided, but not as bad as he would have been. He's very healthy too.

Oh, btw, he is still a beautiful tort.

Yes he has it. You can't change his past but you CAN give him a great future. So focus on providing him that and love him all the more :)

He has it really bad. I would recommend some major humidity like 80-90%

Not all species can handle that high of a humidity. Although all species can benefit from some humidity, the high humidity is not meant for all.

The first four threads located here http://www.tortoiseforum.org/forum-80.html. May help you out.

You can't reduce it. You can get the new growth growing in smooth though. I really wouldn't worry about it that much. If you house him correctly, good diet, lots of sunshine, exercise, hydration, he will be a happy long living tortoise that will grow a little smoother.
