Question about Size/Grams

So I'm looking into a new scale. The one I have currently seems to be all over the place.

The 500g scales are like $7, and then the 1,000g scales go way up to $30.

So I was figuring I'd just go with the 500g scale for now since Thor weighs roughly like 70-80g.

I wanted to ask. On Average how long would a leopards SCL (Babcocki, not Pardalis) be to weigh roughly 500g? And how Old on average would he be at 500g? Just curious how long this would last me, or if it would be worth it just to go straight to the 1,000g.

And there is no growth chart thing for leopards like the ones for other tortoises.

well you will def. save money going for the 1K gram one. Why go with the smaller one then upgrade when you can just have one scale the whole time.

I agree, go with the 1k gram one first. My scale goes up to 13lbs. and it was onle $26 from EBay.

What one did you get? A lot I looked at that were above 1,000g anyways wern't exact enough.

Since he's so small, using a typical scale that weighs in LBs/KGs isn't accurate.

I bought an "American Weigh" scale. AMW-13 digital scale. $28.99 on Ebay this past Janurary. It measures up to 13.2lbs in .1oz increments. It has a readout in kg, oz, and grams. I get repeat readings of +/- 1gram. Good enough for me.

If I place a 100 gram tort on the scale 10 times, I may get 3 readings of 99g and 7 readings of 100g.

I think you are looking for something that just doesn't exist in a chart that says what your tort should be for weight/size at each age. My two little ones are growing as different as can be. One is slowly growing in length, but the other one is growing more round. For your comparison, here are the stats on them:

4 years old - 750 grams, 5.5" scl, but almost as round
3 years old - 530 grams, 5.125" scl

They both have grown a little over an inch in length since I got them. I have noticed a faster growth rate during the warmer months when I let them outside to graze during the day.

Hope this helps. Perhaps if we all kept good records of growth, we could create our own average growth chart for leopards with the data.

Thanks! Yes, I wasn't necessarily looking for a chart, but what you provided with yours works. I just wanted to see roughly at what age they would hit certain weights. While it's different, it shouldn't vary by 100g when they're still small.

Seems to be somewhat accurate with yours then. Has 3 years at 500g abouts. Although I don't like the chart at least it's close

So it seems like the 5,000g one then will last quite a few years. Plus I can use it for many other things around the house too! And by the time he's outweighed it (10 lb scale). I can just use my human scale and hold him with me standing on it. It goes by 0.2 of a lb. And at that point I'll probably be weighing once a month.

Well I have no idea. The scale doesn't work UGH. This is crazy. First the seeds I order don't get shipped in over 2 weeks and I have to do a chargeback with paypal and then I get a bad scale.

Luckily the seller pays for return shipping and I get a new one for free. I just have to wait probably over another week to get another scale. Just waiting for them to contact me back to tell me how to ship it back.

So with recent online purchases i'm 2 out of 4 coming on time, the way they're supposed to.

Well I got my seeds on wednesday actually (from carolina). The lady from turtlestuff said my package was damaged (almost 3 weeks after she "mailed it"). And it wasn't scanned or anything saying it was damaged, basically a lie. Anyways I got my seeds from carolina and planted those yesterday. Hope they grow fast.

But yes, that's the bad thing about online shopping, not everything works, but you pay less.

get a bag of organic top soil (It has peat in it) I found that the seeds that I scattered with organic top soil grew faster than the ones without it. Its the only option seeing as fertilzers are toxic...

Yes, I have organic soil, mixed with just dirt from outside.
