Rabbit hay.

The previous family that had the Russian before me would give her rabbit hay for "roughage".
Is there any down side to it? Apparently she was eating it with no issues before.

I don't THINK there is any problem with a Russian eating hay, although I don't think they normally do. They are more of a weed eater.
The only issue I know of is that they will need extra hydration. If you don't already, I would consider giving daily soaks.

Kinda depemds on what type of hay and how it is presented. I wouldn't put a pile of timothy or alfalfa on top of the substrate, but if you want to use some finely blended up grass hay to add some fiber to grocery store greens, that would be a good way to use it.

Have you actually seen the tortoise eat hay? What type of hay? Rabbits can eat many types.

I'm surprised a Russian tortoise would eat rabbit pellets/hay, as they are mainly broad-leaf weeds and plant eaters. I guess he must've been pretty hungry.

Just orchard grass hay. But no I haven't seen her eat any and I haven't used any of the small bag they gave me.
