Its raining at the moment where i am and i was wondering, do tortoises have and opinion on rain? Do they dislike being outside in it or do they not care?
If it's cold rain, what they hate is the cold. They'll dig in or go find somewhere warm to hide out.
If it's warm rain... they love it. They'll be out in thunderstorms... or as happened this spring in a sudden unexpected hail shower that was very heavy, but didn't actually lower the air temperature much (it was sunny at the same time - very weird!)
You'd think the noise of the rain or hail stones would annoy them, but it doesn't seem to.
For the record, Joe is unimpressed by the current weather. It's not warm enough!
I can only speak for my torts (forest type) but they seem to enjoy it. During a light rain they are out eating, breeding, and wandering in general. During a thunderstorm they seek shelter but afterward they are out enjoying the aftermath. It fact I create rainshowers if it goes more than two or three days without rain.
We're having torrential downpours and thunderstorms here. Since I have put him outside, I have noticed that the more heavily it rains, the more likely he will leave his shelter and go rest in a unprotected corner of his pen. Perhaps he just likes the rain on his shell.
