Well i got sick and tired of not being able to have any hostas in my redfoot enclosure due to the fact that they get eaten in a matter of seconds. I decided i would build a raised planter for the hostas that doubles as a hide. So i gathered some materials from my scrap pile and here is what happened next:

I decided to make it out of a rubbermaid tub and some nice treated lumber the a neighbor gave me.

I then built the base

Next i put the rubbermaid tub into the frame.

Finally i mixed some soil from my yard and a some peat moss and put into the planter inside the fenced portion of my enclosure.

I thought it would be cool to make it double as a hide so I put two boards at the base and into the ground. As you can see its already being put to good use. :)

Thanks for looking!

I love it! (Did you put in a couple drain holes so the dirt doesn't get saturated?)

Before you got into tortoises, how would that afternoon have been spent?

Thanks Terry, I cant wait until they get bigger. I dont remember if you saw my post of the whole enclosure but that spot was pretty bare. The hostas will really add to that area.

I don't remember if I saw that post or not, John. I'm sorry if I missed it. I just never get to all of them. My hosta's are already so big now. One of the best plants to have in an outdoor enclosure, IMHO. Pio will sit under her's all day instead of going into the hide, and my boxies all sit under them most of the day too. You are smart to raise them, because every Spring the boxies eat the little pointy strouts, and then it takes longer for them to come up again. I always see some leaves with bite's in them in Pio's garden too. I don't want to hijack your thread with a picture, but mine do get very big.
