I was recently approached by someone asking me to adopt their Red foot tortoise. The problem is that I don't really know much about them! I was wondering if anyone could give me some basic information about them or tell me where to find some good starter info on them?

I mostly would like to know about how large they get, their basic temp/humidity requirements, and how their personalities are. If I learn I can provide the basics, I know I can learn everything more advanced from everyone here. :D

Thanks!!

www.tortoiselibrary.com is a great resource.

Very brief summary:
Size: up to 14".
Temp/humidity: mid 80s/80% RH
Personality: From what I've read, they can be very puppy-like. Mine are only 1. I'll let you know in another year, but I love 'em to death.

Feel free to ask more questions.

Thank you for the quick responses! I'm going to do some reading before I decide if I can handle it :)

I live in Atlanta, GA. right now, but I'm planning on moving to Florida in the coming months.

I spoke with the current owner and it looks like I'll be bringing home the baby next weekend! Now I just need to get everything together for her :)

Congratulations! I have one at home now and two more hatchlings that I'm awaiting shipment on but so far this winter cold isn't cooperating with my plans!
I live in Florida too. The warm, humid climate (for 10 months out of the year) is ideal for them.
Very sweet, friendly little torts. Good luck and please post pics when you get him or her :)

Thank you! I'm really excited to meet her and bring her home. What part of Florida are you in? I'll be heading to the Orlando/Kissimmee area. I'm actually heading down tomorrow to look at houses, so that's why I won't be able to get the new baby until next weekend!

Here is a some picture of the new girl. How does she look?
