Hi, Alex,

Thank you for your reply.

It was orally administered. I think it was two days, but I’m asking the vet today. Here I’m again.
That's good, as injections of Baytril may have really bad side effects.

As for the recovery - I hope she will be fine. But it may take some months. Wellington has outlined what can be done above.

Maybe @zovick or @Yvonne G can give more advice (here is the description of problem)

Hi, all!

I hope you had an amazing 2024 and I wish you the best for this new year.

I would like to add more information about Juanita.

I traveled back to my hometown on April and we took some x-rays that I'm attaching here.

Now, I am back in my hometown and she is moving like she is going to vomit and some drool comes out. She is eating a little bit but she seems very tired and sleepy all day. Since she cannot move, I don't think it's weird she seems that weak. Also, she is not pooping a lot. Most times she excretes a dark yellowish jet with urine. We are soaking her daily in warm water. Current temperature in my hometown (Cúcuta, Colombia) is 31 C / 87 F and humidity is 51%.

Thank you very much for all your help!

Looks like she's impacted or constipated. Put her in a large tub with water that raises her off the floor, making her paddle. Keep your eye on her so she stays safe. Paddling around, trying to get out does wonders for emptying the digestive tract.

You might also want to try foods with a dilutantic effect like cucumber, pumpkin, zucchini or aloe vera.

You could also try feeding mineral oil rolled up in lettuce or wipe it on the cloaca with a q tip.

Thank you, guys!

Thing is she cannot move. Some vets said she is suffering metabolic bone disease (based on the symptoms and the x-ray images) and all the information I previously shared. She only seems to move the back right foot.

Yeah, locomotion is important for their digestion. If you manage to get her to poop it should help her to feel more comfortable.

How long has she been like this?

Hi,

Almost one year now. I'm going again to the vet today. Any advice?
I would do another X-ray if possible to see if there are any changes since April. There is a rounded lighter area to the side of cloaca - it doesn't look quite right. But let Yvonne or @zovick take a look, I'm next to zero in reading X-rays.

It is my understanding that MBD is very painful...if your tort is sleeping mostly, not walking around not eating much and not pooping...it may be time to think about euthanazation. Does she have any quality of life? Is she hurting all the time? You must consider her life quality now

With the amount of meat she was being fed a year ago, could she have a bladder or kidney stone?

I think she is probably suffering and the kind thing to do would be to ask the vet to put her to sleep (euthanasia). I am sorry and I believe you have done everything you could.

Hi, friends!

I need a little bit of help with my red footed Juanita. I think one month ago or so she stopped walking around her house. She stopped eating and drinking water for a week. She’s back at her normal eating habits, but so far she doesn’t want to walk. She’s alert to her surrounding.

She’s approximately 30, maybe a little older. She’s with me since I’m 8 and I’m very worried because of this :(.

Let me know if I can do something.

ThanK you very much. Truly.
I have the same issue. Walked fine. Had pneumonia 2 months ago. Now recovered. Eating. Etc. alert. No walking since December.

Please post several pictures of your tortoise and of the enclosure?
What species, age, gender if you know it.
What are the temperatures, humidity, and such in the enclosure ?
Do you feel any resistance when you gently touch or push the legs?
Does your tortoise retract the legs or are they limp?
Have you tried the water/swimming therapy?

With the information provided currently, I have no ideas as to what to do. I would recommend getting a new X-ray taken of the tortoise as well as posting some pix of the animal itself so we can see what it looks like.
