Hi all. So spring is at its arrival, and that's when the roaches start becoming active again. I imagine such problem takes place at most households, whether indoors or outdoors. Therefore, the problem is, when a roach appears near, or even insides of your torts' enclosures, what would you do? I believe spraying pesticides is a bad idea for obvious reasons. Do you catch them with bare hands? Maybe just let them be?

PS My current enclosure for my sully is indoors

Thankfully the only roaches here are the outdoors kind.

I use a no bugs shelf paper in all my kitchen cabinets, and I spray ant and roach killer with residual effects all around the doors, under the sinks where the pipes come into the house, etc.

Sadly, they always appear indoors and this makes the work much more difficult, especially the fact that there are unreachable, unknown holes in my place, and you know how fast roaches can reproduce...

I would not spray poison....you can try to use FOOD GRADE diatameous earth ( am sure spelling wrong) and not the type that is use to clean swimming pool filer systems...FOOD GRADE is the only type...you can sprinkle it around the enclosure as well as in the enclosure...this will damage the insect and cause it to die from dehydration...but will not harm the tortoise.....

I get them outdoors all summer long, but I ignore them. I use roaches as feeder insects for some of my other animals and I keep several colonies of different species. It is because of this that I can tell you that the roaches pose no threat to your tortoises. Roaches won't touch a live animal, even little babies, unlike crickets or super worms.

To control their numbers, I prefer to use Roach Motel type glue traps. No pesticides or toxic chemicals, and they are easy to pick up, toss in the trash and replace. Cheap too. Those are very effective here.
