Hello, I was wondering what age and size a Russain tortoise could be kept outside. I was woried about Shelldon because it gets to be around 50° when its the coldest outside in the summer. Shelldon is 4.75 inches and was wondering if that is a good size. I currently house him in a 4'x2' homemade cage with a mix of organic topsoil and coco coir. I have two hides for him. There are also two big rocks and three sticks. Along with a water dish and food dish. Oh and I forgot....... I have chicken wire over the cage, you know just in case:D. Sooooo...... can you guys give your opinions?

I live fairly close to you, and I have smaller Russians than yours living outside 24/7. Mine are doing great, so you shouldn't have any trouble. :)

If the temps are fine where you are, you shouldn't need anything electrical outdoors.

I don't use any lighting. My Russians stay out all the time (unless it's hibernation time and I don't want to hibernate one for some reason.) Fifty is not too cold for them. I just make sure mine are secured for the night (raccoons will kill them.)
