Hey guys,

I got a Russian tortoise recently and I am concerned about the health of her shell. There is one area in particular where there is a white spot along her shell on the side (the white towards her head is from trying to dig under her feeding rock). I will post some pictures for reference. I am not sure if that is a normal part of growth or some type of infection.

I think it is new growth but I also see lots of dried mud along the scutes. Suggest you bath the tortoise to clean and also hydrate they drink in the water. Shallow water to edge of lower scute at between 30 and 33 deg C ensure not drowning and then leave for 30 mins with supervision. This should be a regular task . I use a small tooth brush to clean under neath and over the top avoiding the face. Once bathed you can recheck the white streak.
