There is a Repticon expo in North Carolina this November. I'm wandering if any Aldabras will be available there ?

There are numerous Aldrabran breeders here on the forum, but think about what's been said. This conversation is by people who know. Also, if you are new to tort keeping, please don't start with such a specialized tortoise. You want a big one with personality, adopt a Sulcata. Much more personality than an Aldab.

We adopted a Sulcata a few years ago which is 35lbs now which we have thoroughly enjoyed. My son and I have always wanted an Aldabra tho.

We only want to actually pick one out, pay for it and carry it home. This way we don't get scammed out of our money or get a non healthy tortoise shipped to us. We are in no rush.

If your buying online use PayPal and not friends and family, either a credit card or Reg PayPal (goods and services/invoices). That way your covered. Obviously I mean use a credit card through PayPal don't give them your credit card numbers.

Has anyone come across ads for tortoises that were scams ? My son and I really would to have an Aldabra. We can't really afford the dealer prices so we have been checking the web occasionally. We have actually have contacted a couple of people who have Aldabras listed for sale only to realize it's a scam. One wasn't far from me so I told them I'd like to make the drive and pick it up. They said they could only ship and I had to send them the money for the tortoise plus shipping. I think I remember seeing an ad on here not to long ago for Aldabras in Baltimore. I believe it was a scam also and soon it was removed. It's sad people have to be that way. I'm sure some people fall for it and send money but never get a tortoise in return.

Hi i responded to a craigslist ad that this "farmer" was looking for a good home for his marginated tortoise but he kept going from singular to plural so i asked how many he had and he wanted to overnight them immediately . i just needed to send the shipping so i said i was in montgomery already and he deleted his ad. Someone used a parrot in maryland forcthe same thing. There were pics of some guy with this gorgeous and very tame bird but again it got deleted immediately. It has made me very skeptical and itis such a wasteof time.they should say they have 18 yr old virgin brides" we mail to you for free just send shipping fee so she can be there in the am to cook you a 5 star breakfast and then clean house!" such crap.

Seriously sick sulcata = >$3000 vet bill for feeding tube operations, X-rays, medicine, special diet, barium study, SubQ fluids, repeated out-of-town trips to the specialist, etc.... I can only imagine what vet costs would be for a giant aldabra if something like that happened.

BTW, sulcata is fine now.

I’ve had a scam a few yrs ago. Also talked about shipping the Leopard tortoise to me. I had free air miles to Boston, where they admitted they weren’t there & it was a scam.

All of this ticks me off. If you don'y have tortoises to sell, don't try an make money off of people who actually care about them.
