I know you can’t really sex a tortoise till they are much older. But how do we go about naming 😂

We thought maybe he was a he and had Turbo but my partner who previously had a male Hermanns said no I think it’s female because she does not look like his which was definitely a boy.

So now I’m stuck I don’t want to give her a boys name 🤣

I’m definitely obsessed with our new addition which ever sex they are such lovely little babies!!

Picture below incase someone here is super at sexing even young ones! Yes she had just had a lovely soak here one thing she really does love!

He/she is looking female for now (shorter tail). The whole thing about not being able to visually sex until later is because all tortoises hatch looking female and won't start developing any possible male characteristics until later.

he/she is currently about 1years old so we’ve definitely got a while till we know for sure! Maybe we will go with a girlie name and hope he/she is female!

Zola sort of put his name into my mind when we first got him, not knowing if he was male or female.
There's GianFranco Zola, the footballer, who we liked a lot,
Emil Zola the writer,
Zola Budd- a female runner
and Zola in Swahili means quietness
- so we covered a lot of possibilities !
If you choose a name which can be male or female, or can be adapted, then you are ok - or just wait until Turbo puts the right name into your mind.
