Today I went to put a rescued female russian tortoise in her bath and there was a broken egg in the enclosure!

She was housed with a male but I separated them about 2 months ago when I took them in so unsure if it was fertile or not....

Is it possible she will be laying more? Is there anything I should do to prepare for her? I never expected this to happen! 20150326_090026.jpg

Yes it might be fertile and most likely she will lay more. What do you have for substrate and how deep is it?

By the way, she is lovely. :)

For substrate I have a mixture of dirt and coconut coir. It is only a couple inches deep because of the way The enclosure is built but I did put the lid from a kitty litter box with about 5" of substrate thinking maybe she would use it as a nesting box?? 20150326_110022.jpg
