My Red Eared Slider turtle has some scutes coming off. Should I be concerned? I don't know if it is normal or not, but I want the best health for my turtle.

Also, he/she is 4 and a half inches long. Is that big enough to tell gender?

Thanks!

Hello and Welcome :). If we can see the feet of your turtle, we can tell you the sex. Also, they do shed. Does s/he have enough room to get out of the water and bask under a heat light? They spend a lot of their time out of the water.

RES shed scutes unlike tortoises. If you look at my signature there is a forum for RES. It is a great place for information on RES turtles & basking area ideas etc. Your turtle is cute! I love my turtle :) Also post a picture of the underside and someone can help you with the sex.
