Hi everyone,

I’ve got a little concern that I’m hoping you can answer, I am raising 3 baby Greek tortoises each in their own closed chamber enclosures I provide UVB, 45-60 minutes outside daily and sprinkle calcium on food 2 times a week. Their shells are getting harder, the sides are fully hard however the plastrons and backs of the shell still have a little give. They are 1 year old in August and I’m just wondering should I be concerned or is this a gradual slow process.

Thanks

Ben

It takes time to harden. Do not worry unless they start softening

Ok thank you, can shells soften with the correct UVB, diet, supplements and outdoor time?
Shells only soften with hatchling failure syndrome. When they have really dry starts. Normal sunlight exsposure and calcium they should be fine
