Hello i have a 3 year old RES about 10-11inches (?) and she has been developing these offwhite looking spots on her shell for maybe a week now, they were smaller up until 2 days ago now they look like they’ve grown. I went ahead and treated with iodine providone and let her sunbathe for about 20m then washed off and placed in her tank. Ive only treated once mostly out of worrysome and i am now looking for confirmation on if this is shell rot / If anybody believes it to be shell rot may you state your own process of treating it. Thanks alot for any input .

Questions

1. Tank is a 60 Gal

2. Water temp usually 77-79

3. Basking temp usually 90-100 ( i lost my thermostat so not too sure of exact temp, packaging says 12in distance= 101F but im sure the floor she basks on is 90-95)

4. Shes eating well etc

Below ive included multiple spots i believe to be shellrot and different angles of said spots , again thanks alot for any input.C34D4AE0-364A-4AD6-80D9-1AA72ABDA2A1.jpeg

Also forgot to mention the smaller spot on top of her shell is more of a dent… as if a tiny piece of shell was missing

Those spots do not look like rot or fungus at all. They all look like scrapes or some type of mechanical abrasion. Some could be exasperated by the long term retention of its scutes. The older keratin becoming more susceptible.

Unfortunately your turtle also looks like it has not shed at all. A healthy slider will shed at least once a year. One of the issues you see with larger basking turtles being kept in a small tank. Basking in sunshine and a better diet is needed.

Well i dont know about the better diet part, i feed her basically everything, green turtle sticks, carnivore pellets, mealworms, crickets, and fruits/veggies , even succulent leaves from time. Apart from this as i mentioned i take her to bask for atleast 15-20m everyday

I have since switched her basking light for a stronger one, thank you for the input and confirming that this is not shell rot good day buddy.

It looks to me like air getting under that top layer of keratin, like what happens when the layer is getting ready to shed.
