Shell rot?

Does my Mississippi map have shell rot? There are white patches on his shell.

It looks like algae on the top of the shell.
I have heard that you can take a very soft toothbrush and give him a gentle cleaning.
Others will reply about shell rot. I have only seen pictures and have no experience with that.

P.S. not sure that aquatic turtles get shell rot

I would be suspicious of the spots on the plastron. It might be the beginning of shell rot. It's easily treated. :)

Aquatics get shell rot more easily than Tortoises, from what I've seen.

That said, I'm not sure you hvae rot here. Looks more like "shell haze" or mineral deposits.
