Hi Blueangel:

If I'm remembering correctly, you are 10 years old, right? Does your mom or dad help you with the tortoise? It sounds like this tortoise is in dire need of help, and he needs it immediately!

Get someone to help you find out how warm the habitat is. You need to measure the temperature all over the floor of the habitat, from one end to the other.

What have you been feeding him, and have you seen him eat?

Do you ever put him into a small tub of warm water to soak for about 20 minutes? Do this right now! And in the mean time, ask your mom to go to the store and buy you several jars of Gerber strained carrots.

For the next few days, add some warm water to a bowl with high sides that the tortoise can't climb out of. Make it so the water comes up to the middle of the tortoise's sides (where the top meets the bottom), then add a jar of baby food carrots to the water and mix it up. Leave the tortoise soaking in this mixture for at least a half hour. You can place a light over one side of the bowl so he doesn't get cold. Keep checking on him to be sure he doesn't tip upside down.

If you can't get him to perk up, you're going to have to take him to the vet, however, it is my GUESS that the tortoise is reacting to the way he is being taken care of, and not because he has an illness.

Have you read the "important threads" at the top of the sulcata section?

Please keep us posted.

It could be environmental stress. You should continue to soak him in warm water and be sure that he is kept warm at all times. See if he continues to perk up.

Are you offering uva/uvb ?
What are you feeding him?

Sand is not a good bedding because they can eat it and it will cause digestion problems. It also can irrated the eyes.
