well the first question is she healthy enough for hibernation? you should never hibernate a sick tort. i never hibernated my russians and they are just fine:) if you don't want her to hibernate just bumb up the cage temps a little bit to trick her into thinking its still summer.

I don't think there is anything to worry about. Activity-levels goes up and down all the time. Variations in the weather and time of year can have an impact on the torts behaviour also. I guess they also feel the differences in air pressure etc.

Last week one of my torts slept in his baskingspot all day. Ate, and slept at night. The last three days he's been hyperactive... He's wierd, and that's normal for a tortoise :tort:

Just to be sure, you should check the temperatures in your torts enclosure. :)

It's that time of year again where everyone's russians seem to start slowing down. If it's warm and toasty, he won't hibernate, he'll brumate. He'll just get lazy and sleep way more than usual. It's totally okay for her, just make sure she's eating/drinking and pooping regularly.
Natural part of a russian's behavior!

This is the time of year I replace the UVB bulbs. It helps. Only Olga has been hiding because Uncle Vanya is enjoying the autumn sunshine and trying to ensure the continuation of the species.

That's a good idea. I replace mine in the spring... but I can see how well that could work out :D
