smelly tortoise

Hi I got a new hermans last week . Its settled well and is eating and behaving fine. But I noticed an orangey colour (like rust) on its shell and removed it carefully with a toothbrush. After a day some of it has returned and it smells.
Any ideas please

Hi,
Your new Hermanns has shellrot. You need to see a qualified vet that knows about tortoises. You need to keep the area clean and dry. Your going to need to change what he/she is sitting on to paper towels or a cloth towel that you change everyday. You can use a triple antibiotic ointment on the area to help it to keep bacteria free.
