I'm seeing more and more smooth rescues. This one was brought to my by the Clovis Animal Control. He was found wandering the city streets. Because he was picked up by Animal Control, I have to hang onto him for a while to see if his owner claims him. I've also placed a craigslist.com ad and a nextdoor.com ad, but those things only work if the owner is computer savvy and online a lot. If I don't get any response by Monday I'll put a 'found' ad in the local newspaper. . . yes, folks still read the newspaper. My 'found' ads usually generate a lot of responses - mostly the kind where phony people try to claim it when it's not theirs.

So, it looks like people are finally getting the message on how to raise smooth sulcatas!

I haven't weighed him, but he took up the whole floor of the wheelbarrow. . . maybe 50 or 60lbs?

Easily he’s huge! About how old do you think? Someone must be missing him horribly he was obviously cared for. Did anyone post flyers by where he was found?

He was picked up by Animal Control, so, no, I didn't post fliers. He looks to be ABOUT 10 years old. Gonna' be a pretty big boy.

For examples on the age, here is our guy at 4 years...and right about 75 pounds.. so Yvonne’s new rescue does look older...and why I’m guessing heavier in weight as well.

He's beautiful, he must have come from a good home. I hope they get him back soon.

I know the panic that can set in.....our little guy wandered off one day, i kept telling my wife to “think like a turtle” where would Sully be hanging out...look there first. So lets hope this guys owner is looking and soon re-united.

I hope you find the owners. He looks beautiful.
Just got a call from them last night. They're on their way home from a week end at the coast. They left their mom in charge of the tortoise. Seems she let him outside then went in the house and forgot about him. Someone read my craigslist.com ad and called them. He weighs 80lbs. So he'll be going home today.

That's good news. I'm sure they'll be delighted to have him back. What's his actual name? [emoji4]

Torty.

I got more of the story when they were here to pick Torty up. Seems that a few weeks ago they brought him out in the front yard to graze on the grass out there. (Attention all you sulcata keepers: this is a big mistake. You should never allow your tortoise to know that there's more to the world outside his fence.) Ever since then, all he wants to do is break down the garage door and get out to the front yard. So when they went away over the week-end and left mom in charge of the house, she went through the garage door and neglected to put the bar across to make sure it stayed locked. The tortoise broke the door knob stuff and got out through the garage.

All's well the ends well.
