Hey all!

Hoping you have anything on the below. So my tort Percy has started making this sound recently and its usually when he’s either having a soak or settling down to sleep. It sounds almost like he’s sniffling like we would do from a cold. His back legs will wiggle inwards too but then go back to normal - a bit like us entering into REM sleep I guess!

Though he’s eating really well, toileting fine and healthy, changed his sub which he seems to love and is thriving, no signs of illness that I can see, nose is fine - does usually a runny nose but this is after he’s just eaten then goes back to normal. Eyes and third eye fine too. Walking on all fours, no dragging and shell not touching floor. Very alert and responsive.

Any ideas or just general settling/relaxing noises?

Hello I am no expert but to me this sounds like mucus in the throat to me. After soaking or when relaxing for sleep it seems he has mucus in his airway....Nothing to be concerned about, just trying to help with 'what' is making this noise. There are far more educated tort people here, and I'm sure they'll be a long shortly, but to me this seems like nothing to worry about. A torts nares (nostrils) go into the roof of their mouth and it is pretty common for there to be a little mucus in there and a couple weird sounding noises that happen. Does this noise occur in the morning when first waking up? or do you hear this noise during sleep?

Ahh thank you lovely! Not when he wakes up no, its usually whilst he’s having a soak (when he’s chill and has a lil nap) or when he’s settling down to go to sleep. He’ll do if for about 20-30 mins on and off and then he’ll eventually stop once fully asleep! :)

I did have a sound recording but struggled to upload it, if I manage I’ll add it on xx

No need for the sound recording, I do believe it is just a little mucus getting put in the line of the airway and making some ...... relaxed tort music. Of course others will hopefully chime in but I do believe you are ok.
