so Im at work yesterday and was outside just doing my thing when my coworker pointed out a cage in the grass. We went over to look and there was this little 4"Red foot tortoise. So i was like, nice! so I was checking him out speaking to him,he barley moved.Looking at his water it was full of these little millipedes we get here.So i changed its water and went to check him out.His eyes were shut he was awake he pus coming out of one eye,He was lite as a feather, shell rot on his underside.I was totally disgusted.I gave him a bath and he started cleaning his eyes ,he got one open and started on the one that had pus around it.Then he had a poop and it had lots of white in it.I sent my guy down the road for a tomato or a few leafs of lettuce while I watched this little guy.He would stretch his head out and rub his eyes and then nothing for a while and then the same thing. The next day (today)Im back there and dont see the the tortoise. So when I see her I ask about it and she says it passed in the nite. She told me that she took him to the vet which I dont believe because he would of sent her to the aquarium and zoo and they would of treated the animal. It really gets me when people dont look after their pets. This animal was totally neglected.I have a hermans tortoise and I love her.It made me think about just how important she is in our lives. She cant bark or meow,so its up to the owner to make sure their needs are met! Sorry for the rant Im a little teed

Same sort of problems here on the mainland. Human nature, unfortunately. I just do what I can and try not to lose sleep over what I can't.

I thought about that too. I think however he just gave them the actual tomatoes and not the leaves. Or at least I am hoping.
