Soaking the African spurred?

So I just got a new tortoise, I'm new to everything and the responsibility, but I'm trying everything, I read that your only suppose to soak the babies 3 days a week, is this true? Can I soak ( Mary jane) everyday? How long should I do it? Does the water have to be warm? Do I use a soft toothbrush to clean (Mary Jane)?
