I soak Thor every morning for 15-30 minutes. It started out fine, then this past week or so he has stopped eating if I soak him in the morning. If I feed him first he eats fine, but if I soak first he will not eat or only nibble at the food a few hours later. I have started feeding first then soaking in the afternoon, which is not a problem. Just wanted to know if anyone else had a sully this picky about their schedule? :)

haha, no but that's funny. all of my babies will eat anything, anytime. even without the sleepies completely rubbed out of their eyes. it looks like you're growing greens for him in his enclosure! i'm so happy to see that!

I try to but of course they don't last long lol. They only get to about an inch before he decides the grass is to high and mows them down. :)

My tortoises also eat anything at any time especially after a warm soak...

Is your water warm enough? It sounds like you're cooling him off and that makes him not want to eat...

I thought that too Maggie. I use warm water and place him near the light. The temp around the bowl is always about 80.

When soaking a young tortoise what temperature should the water be? I have been letting the water cool to room temperature, but that could be around 70 degrees.

Keep it warm for young torts, such as 80F. When your tort gets older you can decrease it to around 76F, but 70F would be too cold.

hah this is exactly what happens with my little torts. the shoots go up one day, the next there are two tiny leaves on the end of each stem, the next day.... there is a bunch of bent over shoots and brown dirt.

*** in a tort pen, this makes me happy. outside in my garden, this makes me want to have some rabbit stew for dinner. ***

I soak my leopards in at least 90 degree + water. They will very quickly become the temperature of the water, and I really don't want them cooler than that. Mine always eat right after a soak.

I spray them with warm water also.
