I've always used sphagnum moss in my box turtle enclosures. Today I tried putting some in George's enclosure. He promptly began eating it. Anyone else have this problem? I've removed it for now.

I had that problem with my first leopard when he was little. He tried eating it, a piece got wrapped kinda tight around his neck and I had to pull a piece from his butt. I stopped using it when it was wrapped around his neck. I personally don't like it and think it can be dangerous.
But yes, mine did eat it.

Thanks. I love it for my box turtles! But then, they do not eat it.

Yep. It's on the edible list. Don't worry about it.

I had that problem with spud. I stopped using it. I think I might give frog moss a try but last time I got it it was really smelly. It just looks so bare in his Enclosure and I want some life in there, not to mention that it would bring up the humidity massively

I found an endless supply not far from where we live a couple weeks back. It grows in very marshy land. Where we found it is where the rain drains off the land into a small river. I literally have found a lifetime supply. As far as the eye can see there is spaghnum mosses. 3 types I think.
Some photos of the type of place we found it growing on a very cold winter years day.
Will save us a fortune. :D

@Anyfoot How Lucky! But that is definitely cheating lol! I was looking at your enclosure and thought your moss looked really green and lively compared to my old "store bought" brick... No wonder! By the way... You have some Amazing views where you live!

I used to use the brick type until I found this supply. It's a pleasurable walk out in the fresh air for us too.

Nice! Right now I'm using a mix on organic potting soil repti bark and moss on top of that but I feel like it needs to be more to the layers of each everything seems really thin. I'm definitely going to have a case of OCD now wishing my moss looked as vibrant as yours! I think the added layers will increase my humidity I'm leveling off at 70/75%
