Hi,

I am interested in trying some sphagnum moss in my baby Hermann's hide as I've heard great things about it.
I ordered the Spag-Moss brand from New Zealand that was recommended for this purpose and broke of a small square to let soak. Well, as promised, it expanded almost 20 times its size and now I have plenty for the hide, but, also plenty left over. How do I keep this leftover moss? Can I just store it in a bowl of water until I need to use it again, does anyone know?

Thanks!

When I have extra I just let it dry out then re-wet it as needed. I'm not sure if that is the proper practice or not, but it has worked for me many times.

That's funny. I made the mistake of putting the whole block in a bowl once. I had moss everywhere. It was like something out of a movie. Expanding and expanding and expanding. Felt like shouting out, " she gunna blow" and hitting the deck.

Anyway. I think you will be OK to let it dry out and re-use later.

Ha, ha! Yes, I couldn't believe how much it grew, was amazing really. I tried wringing it out as best as I could and am leaving it in a large clean bowl for now. Day 2 and it's still as moist as ever. The tortoise seems to just love it in the hide though, so I'm happy about that. Just hoping he doesn't eat it.

Yes, dry it out and reuse it, it will be fine, I've done this before with no problems.
