I didn't know Gulf Coast boxies were a protected species in Florida the law says differently in this link.
http://myfwc.custhelp.com/app/answe.../turtles---what-regulations-apply-to-turtles?

Halfway down the link it says:

The following species have a possession limit of two, and can be collected from the wild or purchased from legal vendors:

Eastern box turtles (including sub-species)

Gulf Coast are a subspecies.

RE: Beware of Heading Pads for Box Turtles

I remember reading about it on their site. It's why one can only have two as a limit, and why these turtles cannot be sold or bought or traded in Florida. Btw, can't see the link you posted.

It seems the last letter of the link (F) was left off.
http://myfwc.custhelp.com/app/answe.../turtles---what-regulations-apply-to-turtles? My idea of protected is they are illegal to own or collect from the wild without a permit but I guess a limit is similiar to protection.

Yes, it is exactly what it means. They are protected, and cannot be sold, bought, or traded in Florida.
