it looks like it may be dry and flaking? have your tried to give him a light scrub with a soft toothbrush? I would give him a nice soak, then seen if it the dry part will scrub off. have you checked the temps under your Che and Mvb latley?? he may just be getting dry. even though you are spraying him he could still have a dry shell, I rub on a little vita shell once or twice a month and it keeps the shell nice and Lubed, when i was just spraying all the time it seemed he got a little dry sometimes on the new growth. just a thought, and it could'nt hurt to try.

I was getting ready to put some on his shell, but some people say it does no good but I'm gonna try it anyways. He gets soaked every other day like clock work and he has a dish to soak in on his own altho its not very deep. Thanks for the help! :)

yeah lots of people dont like vita shell, but i really like it and it seems to work very well for my tort, we have really hard water here so no matter how much you spray and mist you still get that dry shell look, although it doesnt matter what kinda water you use to prevent pyrimiding, in my humidifier i use purified water and it seems to make a huge difference for that dry look over just mist with the hard water,

WalkingRock has used Vita-Shell his whole life. probably the only thing that stopped pyramiding when young because Cathie knew NOTHING about soaks or Humidity or even temperture control but used Vita-shell everytime he had a growing cycle.

hey i know coop is growin like a mad man but at walmart they have 2 sizes of dish washing tubs, the tubs are about 3 dollars their in the kitchen section. I think the big one would be perfect for him for a while as it is pretty tall, also you could pick up a crane humidifier(or any brand) for him and cover the part of his enclosure where you have it plumbed in. It will be like a big humid hide right their. check out this thread of how i have mine set up. http://www.tortoiseforum.org/Thread-Squirt-Shenanigans-Picture-Update#axzz1ksseyiSw

How do the spots feel? Squishy? Flakey? Are the spots anywhere else? What type of obstacles are in his enclosure? Anything that he maybe bumps against or hits against?

Thank you, I run the humidifer half power, it turns on a 10:30am and off at 9:30pm and it usually keeps it around 60-70 percent humidity, if its up all the way it'll go too 100 percent, I love it and he loves it more! Haha deff a great investment.

Livingstone has the same spots, and he has been bathed religiously every day since he was a hatchling. I think it has more to do with growth than with humidity. As the shell expands the outer layer becomes loose like dry skin and flakes off. Thats just my opinion, so if you see it disappear with the added humidity follow up and let us know.
