they may not need to brumate , but every spring my thought is , it is really good for their health..... i spotted this girl 20-30yards away , she is absolutely neon red

,

the box turtles been showing up for the last couple weeks, this guy just came out the ground today

this was her first full winter outside , last year i brought her in end of december...

i believe when they come out of hibernation their hormones peak, even the duller ones are bright this time of year ..... the red on the wood turtles is ridiculous.......

the origin matters ,wild box turtles in ohio are not brightly colored , especially northeast ohio..... the only place i seen colorful box turtles in ohio was around marietta, west virginia border...... mine originally came from north carolina , whether that was their origin or not i couldn't say....... they do appear to me to be from different locales
