Hi there,
I make my acorn squash cut in half, baked with brown sugar and cinnamon. Now I have always tossed what I have left feeling my torts should not get anything but plain squash. In this day and age I hate to throw anything out. If I scrape off what I know is the spices, but know there is some residual and some butter in there, how bad is it really??? I never know if we will have leftovers or not, or I wouldn't cook it all with flavoring and save some for the torts, but some nights it delicious and there is none left, (and with a 15 yr old that's BIG!!!!)
Ok thoughts,
Throw out? or give it to em???
Thanks

I say give it to them. That's Bob favorite treat, acorn squash, he loves it the best. So I say scrape it off and give it to them...

Seems to me that if you scrape off most of the brown sugar/cinnamon (is cinnamon even harmful to torts?), what's left probably is not going to hurt unless this is daily thing...otoh, I'm guessing that, w/ a 15-yo, there's not a lot left most days, anyway! ;)
(btw. if you think a 15-yo puts away the groceries, wait 'til he's nearing 18 and is never w/o his two or three buds...ever see that jungle movie where the cow is shoved into the Amazon w/ the piranhas...yeah, just like that! :D)

Wow, why didn't I ask this a long time ago???? Just not too bright sometimes.. I just thought butter? torts?? not something they would usually find in the wild. So I never did. But now I will feel good about not throwing it out. Of course last night it came out so good, that I brought the rest for lunch today and my poor torts got nothing, well I do give them the inside seeds, Watch Iill get emails saying how bad that its and I have been doing that for years!!
And yes uh Terry, one question, does that piranha behavior ever stop??? He gets out of school and it's just like that. And I cringe when he says he is bringing home someone, even worse when he says 2 of them.... There goes my food budget.
Other Terry, I cut the squash in half, scoop out seeds, place a bit of butter and some cinnamon inside, lay in a glass pan half filled with water, cover with siran wrap and neuk it for 20 minutes. Comes out perfect every time!!! I used to bake it in oven, but this is easier and hardly notice any difference. (hope you were serious!!)
