Thank you! Hoping he will grow up to look like @Yvonne G 's yellow foot. Really having a difficult time finding people already experienced with yellow foot tortoises.

The stork was delayed due to heat wave but is arriving tomorrow. The nursey is ready. IMG_0514.JPG IMG_0512 (002).JPG

I’m not sure I would use a MVB, or any basking light for that matter. Redfoot/yellowfoots aren’t really baskers, But will when there is a heat lamp. MVB are very desiccating on tortoise shells, and too bright for a redfoot. I would personally just use a uvb tube and a CHE for heat.

I thought it was too bright and too hot too, so I knocked it down to a 75W because I thought they needed it for D3 production. The large dome is a CHE that is on at night. Do you have a pic or a UVB Tube?

Even then, flourescent tunes are much more gentle, don’t produce too much heat, and last much longer. I would just switch to one if you see any problems, or after 6 months when it’s time to replace the bulb :)

Not necessarily, I think there are fittings you can buy so that you can mount it to the wall or top. Keep in mind that you only need a 5.0 uvb.

It would need a closed bottom or the water just runs into the substrate but I would think anything that wouldn't melt or off gas that had a bottom would work. That one is bamboo 6"
