Hi
I have my tort on a mixture of coir and orchid bark. I keep good humidity in a hide for him
The issue I have is his legs sliding out at the back while he walks. It's like he can't get good purchase in the soil.
Any advice for a newbie?
Thanks for your help

Did you mean his legs keeps sliding as he walks on the soil?
Did you pat the soil down with your hand when you put it in the enclosure? Could you post a picture of the enclosure please?
Is there any stones or anything thats mixed in with the soil that would make it hard for him to walk?

He can't get a good footing under him, He almost pushes himself along.
This is his enclosure, the thermometer is a rough guide. I have a temp gun.
He doesn't eat the tort block, he likes to lie on it :)

& thats very cute that he lies on the block. :)

I had woodchip/repti bark in my enclosure and had the same problem. My tort when he walked looked more like he was swimming along the top of the bark.front legs dug in a bit but back legs just couldnt get a grip and just slid behind him. I swapped the bark for damp soil and he walks much better on it. Its messier but he walks far better. Cant speak for everyone but the soil definately works better for me so far...
